Rosaura has been attending Studio Del Creador for nearly two years. She grew up and raised a family a few blocks away from us. Her life has been hard, having lost her husband years ago to a drug overdose and later her son-in-law to a tragic accident. Her daughter in-law had been attending the studio before her and would go home to Rosaura nightly, inviting her to come to the studio. Retired, sad and lonely, Rosaura turned down her daughter-in-law’s repetitive invitations to join her at the studio for about a year. Today she laughs as she looks back and talks about how grateful she is to have the studio as a daily refuge from the problems of her past. She is grateful for theblessings God has poured upon her family over the past year since recommitting her life to Christ.

We have seen a beautiful, progressing change in the spirit of Rosaura since arriving at the studio. Day after day she would attempt to participate in our activities, but would end frustrated with the outcomes. “Oh, I am just not an artist,” she would say. We would encourage otherwise. Today she arrives with a confidence that she in fact has become an artist. Her paintings are very unique and full of intricate detail. She loves painting landscape scenes and animals. We think she does a magnificent job!

We are so proud of her and her determination to overcome what she thought was a great weakness; today she is a great artist!

Studio Del Creador Artist Leo

Artist of the Month: January 2012 

“Leo is always happy.” All whom have had the pleasure of meeting our friend, and first featured ’Artist of the Month’ Leo, would agree with what SDC volunteer Sheadon Ringor says of him.

Leo is our most faithful participant. He began attending Studio Del Creador the week after we opened in January 2009 and has visited us nearly every day since. Over the course of the last three years Leo has made over 200 pieces of artwork and missed only a few days of classes. His favorite material to use for his illustrations is acrylic paint, colored pencil and crayon. Leo enjoys using the most simple and economic of art material, but his investment in technique is what results in stunning high quality images that are full of color and life. He is most known and appreciated for centering his artwork on Biblical scripture, giving all glory to God for his creativity.

Leo is a caring friend to all. Our ministry team leader Bernabe Rodriguez says, “Leo’s sense of cooperation and love for the whole studio community is highly admirable.”

Leo doesn’t have many of the simplest commodities that most of us take for granted every day, but what he does possess is an incredible creative gift from God and a heart full of love, gratitude and worship towards our Lord and God. “Without a doubt, Leo represents the love of God…and His heart for worship is simple and honest,” says Bernabe. Leo is a daily reminder to our studio community of the important things in life. He is one of many that find refuge in Studio Del Creador.
